Information about gym transfers and memberships...

1. How does a gym transfer occur?

Transfer means exchanging your personal details with the club with the person you are taking over the membership from. In doing this you agree to take over the monthly repayment left on the membership whether it be 4, 6 or 7 months dependent on the membership in which you are taking over. Or if you are taking over a prepaid membership you pay the fee proposed by the seller (ensure you investigate this price). The process of transferring involves both parties (the advertiser and yourself) making a time that both of you can meet at the club to go over the relevant paperwork that will initiate the transfer. (Please ensure that the annual membership cost is verified by a the club official when you are completing the paper work).

2. If I purchase a 12 month membership that may have only 4 months left, what happens after the 12 month contract is completed?

Once the original contract is completed, the membership taken over is then on a month to month basis (although please verify this with the club).

3. What is the cost of a gym membership transfer?

The average club administration charged as a transfer fee ranges from $40-$75 or similar amount in pounds.

4. Can we complete the transfer on the site?

All paper work has to be signed off and verified by a club official.

5. What does Direct debit (DD) mean?

Direct debit is the easy way to pay your membership accounts from your savings/cheque account, or credit card account. In most cases, those paying a direct debit on a monthly basis receive significant discounts to the overall cost of the membership.

6. If I take over an upfront membership do I have to rejoin if I want to continue?

Yes! However, you most likely will not have to pay a rejoining fee.

7. How many times can a gym membership transfer occur?

Only once in most cases.

8. Are there different types of memberships?

Please be aware that some clubs have a variety of the types of memberships on offer e.g. some specific memberships may include more specific services on offer such as massage, personal training sessions, weekly session with golf pro if a golf club and so on. In some cases, the membership may refer to the particular time the clubs facilities may be available for your use governed by the type of membership. PLEASE ensure you enquire about this subject with both the person selling the membership and once again with a staff member filling out your transfer papers at the club.

About ads on this site...

1. Oops! What do I do, I've made a mistake placing my ad?

That's fine. On the home page you will find in the top menu tool bar "Edit Your Ad", all you need is your email address and password. Can't remember your password? Just click on "retrieve password" and it will be emailed to you.

2. The person I'm transferring from has stated on their advertisement that the transfer fee is $50. But they have agreed to pay half. What does this mean?

This means that, like most health and fitness clubs, their club charges out a transfer fee for paper work to be completed (an administration fee if you like). The seller has agreed to pay $25 of the $50 transfer fee, the remaining $25 of which you are responsible to pay. In most cases, this is a very good deal as some clubs charge a joining fee of $100 plus, a fee in which the seller may have had to pay when initially joining the club.

3. Tips on gyms and health clubs searches and golf membership searches?

  1. Search our website by performing a gyms / health clubs or golf membership search by clicking on the find a membership page.
  2. You then contact the advertiser/seller through our posting system or, if the seller prefers, by email, phone (landline) or mobile.
  3. If you are able to, visit the club yourself to check out the facilities or arrange a time to link up with the advertiser wishing to transfer their membership. This is advised.
  4. If you decide the club is right for you then arrange a specific time to link up with the advertiser to fill out the relevant paper work (usually takes 5 minutes).

  5. You are then emailed details of your password and pin.
  6. Fill out the relevant paper work (usually takes 5 minutes).

5. How much will it cost me to advertise my membership on your website?

The one off total cost for using transfermymembership.com® services in most cases equates to under the costs of one week of your gym membership payment.

6. How do I contact the person wishing to sell/transfer their gym membership or golf membership?

It is up to the person selling to decide on which way they wish to be contacted. They have an option of leaving their email address, phone contact number or by using our posting system.

7. What happens once I've contacted the person wishing to sell/transfer their membership?

In most cases you will have to meet the seller at the club to conduct the necessary paper work to activate the transfer.

8. If, for example, the person I transfer from has only used 6 months of a 12 month contract, and it is a pay by the month contract, what does this mean for me?

It usually means in completing the transfer you agree to take up their membership commitment for the remaining 6 months of that 12 month membership.

9. What happens if I see the club then decide it isn't for me?

As soon as you contact the owner of the advertisement you are not locked into any commitment. You have simply agreed to peruse the facility to see if it suits you.

10. Points for both seller and buyer?
